Last week we find out we need to replace the brakes.. today the active handling service message came on.
An older post I read today said this could just be a computer update to fix the issue.
Before we spend money for repairs or maybe replace parts that do not need replacement - we would like to hear from others with 2004s that have experienced this issue. We have around 53,000 miles on her.
Thank you again

I had this problem with my'04...it was the swps(steeringwheel position sensor)...
it tends to be the SPS or... nothing. i was looking to replace my SPS when mine just went away. it was doing it for about a week, maybe two, a couple of summers ago. i'm always taking things on/off/tinkering, but i dont recall doing anything that would have fixed or changed that.
you might get lucky, but if you dont, 90% of the posts here all come back to that SPS. there's a lot of posts here on it..
I pull all of the codes and checked them against the code list.
I am aware the P0492 is not an active handling code..
That was an older issue we have and I needed the 'fix' instructions so when we take care of the brakes and replace the spark plugs this next week, I can have the guys fix the emissions issue at the same time. Plus the new issue with the active handling.
Thank you all for the replies...
If someone has a link with photos to replace the active handling sensor I would be very grateful. This is for the code listed as: 28-TCS C 1287 H

I've never done this, just read that replacing the part is a sensitive process. then again, everything ive been warned about doing (head porting, tranny fluid, etc) hasnt turned out to be hard unless you're a bumbling idiot. to each their own, though.
i would say if you arent a pretty seasoned wrench turner, dont do this one yourself, though.
