When idling the battery voltage on the DIC indicates between 13.6 and 14.2 volts. This will occur in a 15 second period. Is this normal or should it be a more steady reading?
Obtain a DC Volt Meter and measure the following points
Battery POSITIVE terminal TO the BATT Terminal on the back of the alternator.
The theoritical voltage reading SHOULD be zero but,,, If you read anything other than zero volts, the connection on the Starter Solenoid is most likely compromised (corroded/burnt/loose)
That would be my first guess. Yes, your voltage should be a lot more stable!
You can also use a JUMPER WIRE and attach it to the battery POS terminal and the alternator BATT terminal and see if that causes the voltages to stablize. That will also tell you that the connetcion between the BATTERY and alternator is crap.
There is also a voltage sense wire on the solenoid that goes to the alternator connector... If that circuit/wire is compromised, same thing..
