Default Service Active Handling - Code C1282

I've had problem with the Active Handling/Traction Control system recently. I checked all codes and the following was displayed:

28-TCS C1282 ---> Can't find this code :(
B0-RFA U1255 ---> Serial Data Line Malfunction :(
B0-RFA C2120 ---> TPM System malfunction(No sensors Received) :(

So what about code C1282, C2120 and U1255 ??

I've tried to search but it seems to be the C1288 that is most common. Anyone who could help me out ?

no idea what the code means but I did get that message on my display once. haven't seen it since so I'm not worried about it.

Thanks but mine keeps coming back :(

Each time it happens the only way to get the active handling to work again is to shutdown and restart the car.

I am fairly sure that was one of the many codes my car threw when I was having repeat messages regarding "Service Active Handling." I have only had my car back from the shop for 2 days, but so far (fingers crossed) I have not had the message again, and my car has been in the shop 3 times for this very message.

The tech replaced my Steering Position Module first, then had to replace the PCM, Electronic Braking and Traction Control Modules and then the Steering Position Module again. It appears that there was a malfunction in the communications with the PCM and the Steering Position Module. You may want to get it checked out by your "friendly GM Tech." :rolleyes: Otherwise, I fear you will continue to receive these messages...

Hi there,
Your c1282 is a Yaw rate sensor malfunction.
This is not an issue with the steering position sensor.
\I would suggest that you have this professionally diagnosed before proceeding with anything further.
Your c2120 means that you have to program your tire pressure sensors.

BlueC5Kitten, c4c5specialist,

Thanks ! All ideas are welcome.

About the Yaw rate sensor(s), there are they mounted and is it possible to point out a specific sensor from the C1282 code ?

Thanks.

Hi there,
The sensor is located beneath the climate control module in your center console.

Thanks !

I've had the centerconsole removed installing some new cables/switches for the Accusump and Cooling pumps, maybe I screwed something up :(

How does this Yaw sensor look like? I need to know what I'm looking for, pics?

Thanks.

[edit]
I just got the info that the Yaw sensor is installed under the passenger seat. Which is it, in the center console or under the passenger seat??

:cheers:

Hi there,
The lateral accelerometer is under the passenger side seat.
The Yaw rate sensor is located under the HVAC control head.
NOTE>>>>Do NOT touch the module with the YELLOW connector, as this is your airbag system.
You yaw rate sensor, is the black connector unit.

c4c5specialist,

Thanks !

I removed the center console today and when I looked under the AirCondition unit I had the yellow 'do not touch' connector and a small black 3-wire connector (orange, black and grey wire) I removed the black connector and checked it for damage/bad connection and put it back. I also checked the wires as far as I could before they dissapeared in a wire harness. Everything looked ok. I got a advice from DRM to check the groundpost on the frame close to the ABS/Traction unit, at the same time I checked the groundpost on the opposite side and the groundpost close to the battery. I removed all cables from the posts and cleaned everything and put it back.

Still I have the Service Traction system message when accelerating hard and the system thinks I'm loosing traction. I also noticed despite the error message and the Traction lamp constantly on that the anti-spin still works. It seems like it's only the system that kicks in when the car start to turn out of control that are malfunctioning.

If you have any more ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Hi there,
The only thing that the Yaw rate sensor will effect is the Active handling.
If your Lateral accelerometer was the case, then your TCS would be disabled.
That is why you have this Traction control still working.
I would replace the Yaw rate sensor, as long as you have your 5volt reference signal on the gray wire, with the ignition on.

c4c5specialist,

I checked the voltages at the Yaw sensor today (with the connector connected to the sensor). This is what I found;

This was measured with chassis as reference:
Blue: 2.54V fluctuating +/- 10mV (I assume this is the output signal)
Grey: 5.03V
Orange: 36mV

Do this look normal?

Thanks.
:cheers:

Yesterday we got the Service Active Handling; re-started the car & everything was AOK. Today, the same thing happened; re-start corrected the problem. Oh well...sounds like a trip to the Chevy dealer. :cry :cry
