Default Running lean!

In the upper rpms I am getting some detonation. I have not autotapped but I can hear the pinging. I have a donaldson blackwing and no MAF screen. Would this alone be the cause for my lean conditon? If so then how can I compensate for this.
Thx

Guess the Non-screeners are speaking up.... ;)

Has it always done this or did you just jump on the screenless bandwagon?

What octane do you have in your area as supreme? 91,92 or 93?

Is the air filter element clean? Is the mass air ends clean if not got to radio shack and get electrical contact cleaner and remove and spray.

Hope some of this helps.

I'd check it with autotap or Ease, and if you are lean you can use a Maf-t to compensate for it. I'd also check the air temp going in. Feeding your blackwing cooler air will help.

I use 93 octane and I thought about trying a little octane boost. The air filter is clean and so is tbe MAF ends. The PCM has not been re-programmed. Could I reprogram it and that help?

I would say with those mods you are lean.

I have a blackwing and I checked the difference between the stock MAF with no screen and a Granatelli MAF. I autotaped my car and I was 18% lean with the blackwing and stock MAF with no screen! and 5% rich with the blackwing and the Granatelli MAF.
since I have a MAF translator, it was easier to tune out the 5% rich than the 18% lean, so I kept the Granatelli MAF on the car.
