Has anyone heard a corvette without mufflers? I am thinking about making some muffler eliminators for the track after I finish my heads/cam/intake/pulley this week. My dad said I have lost my sanity after he heard that I wanted to remove the mufflers after I installed the heads and cam.

I think that both Eckler's and mid-america sell CD's for about $5 with numerous systems at idle, full throttle, inside if you're interested. They both have the borla XR-1 which has no muffs in it. You can probably also hear them at the Borla website.
On two Mustangs I went the "No Muff" route, but always kept the Cats for back pressure and low end torque. It is the cheapest, lightest way of making power. It is also the loudest. You will SCARE :reddevil people from wanting to run you.
For $50 you can save a lot of weight, make a few horses, sound like thet :reddevil , set off car alarms, and pass emissions. At certain RPM's, it can be real rough. Expect at WOT every cop in the county to look for you... :blueangel:

After I did my heads and cam,I drove my car 15 miles to the muffler shop with open rk sports. It sounded ok for an open exhaust car but didn't have that sharp ultra high compression sound that race cars do. I personally believe that there is NO repeat NO reason to run a car without muffs. a properly designed system will cost less than 1 hp on a 1000 hp engine.so why make all the noise??? there are so many tracks being closed down now over noise, there is no need to add fuel to the fire.everyone should have to run muffs....everyone that runs on gas or alky that is. I don't understand some peoples infatuation with open headers. one of the car craft staffers was making a big deal about them allowing open headers at the summer cruise. I personally don't like the idea of a bunch of rednecks running around with open headers on their junky sounding streetcars. My car sounds much better through the flowmasters than it did open.....I haven't heard a car yet that didn't sound better through a good perf exhaust. as for the track, with open headers, you cannot hear your competition.you cannot hear if something goes wrong in your car. can you tell that I am not a fan of open exhausts? :D
I ran two straight pipes right out the back, but then when I went to the off road x pipe it was too loud. So I put some straight Magnaflow 4" mufflers out the back. I ran without for 2 years it sounds great. The cats do most of the muffling anyway.

That definitely sucks. I have people looking at me like I'm some sort of freak w/ that, "Slow down before you kill somebody!!" look. . when I'm going the speed limit. lol
I took the mufflers off my 97 last year. It was terrible on the highway. At 1600 to 2500 there was a terrific resonance in the cabin especially under load when climbing a hill. There were things in the cabin rattling that never rattled before. I had lots of comments both pro and con. Most of the con were "Do you think you are a 16 year old?" On the track it was loud enough that people could tell when I screwed up the throttle. This year I put in two SuperTrap mufflers and with the disks in it is a lot easier to live with on the street or highway. With them out its just like an open pipe car with some fiberglass wrapping around the pipe.

i cut the mufflers and love it, two exhaust pipes sticking out at the end. at first i wanted to hear how it sounded, i liked it so much that i decided to keep it that way. if you want a true race car sound, and dont care how loud it will be, then do it.
I'm with the pro-muffler crowd. Why make a ton of noise, attract cops and deal with resonace at cruise when you can have the same hp and fool people into thinking you're stock. No cats, well I'd miss my low end torque. No headers??...you're an idiot.

If you can read, which it doesnt appear that you can, I have TPIS long tube headers.
