I changed the oil for the first time this weekend. Like the Fram oil commersial "there's nothing like the feeling of a job well done" I changed it with Amsoil-2000 0W-30. The specs are very impressive. (But so is the price $8.50/qt) The Amsoil rep said this oil has been dyno provin to produce 3-5 RWHP. (I'd have to see it to believe it.) I used exactly 6.5 qts to get an oil level reading on the stick of about 80% of the maximum full line.
I use the rhino ramps from pep boys. The only problem I had was while trying to pull the car onto the ramps with the ramps on the slick garage floor surface the ramps would slip out from under the car. I solved that problem by backing the car into the garage, setting the ramps just past the 1/2" garage edge where the garage floor meets the drive way, then I could drive the car onto the ramps. This also help in jacking the rear higher then the front to drain the oil. Because the ramp angle was slighty less angled (due to the slope of the driveway) I didn't have to raise the rear very high to get it higher then the front.
I changed mine last weekend and put 6 1/2 qts of Redline in the crankcase. Let set overnight and ,viola, it read full. Followed the recommmendations from GM on their latest info to dealers to let it sit overnight to get accurate read.
$8.50/qt!!!! Holy smokes, man! Go to the web site and become a preferred customer and get it for a lot less. Or just order it straight and pay more but no where near that. That's the highest price I've ever seen by almost $2/qt.
Here we go again. I just had the dealer change my oil and noticed they only charged me for 6.5 quarts of Mobile 1. So like many I let the car sit over night and the next day read my dip stick. PERFECT. I drove the car for a week and checked it again, still PERFECT.
So I checked past receipts. Some say 7 quarts and the most recent reads 6.5 quarts.
How the heck are you supposed to check your oil when the damm dip stick is not sensitive to +/- .5 quart of oil?

I don't think we're talkin about the same series oil. Amsoil has it listed on there web site for $8.10. That's without shipping. 15-20% discount for preferred customer is still $6.45/qt.
Change the oil with the car level like a dealer on hoist would do and 6.5 qts will bring it to or near the full line after sitting overnight. Then change the oil with the rear of the car a couple inches higher than the front and you'll get all the oil out and 6.5 qts after sitting overnight will read about a 1/2 qt low. :yesnod:

Well I don't know for sure either but here's the "claim" for redline's stuff. I'm sure Amsoil would see similar results. Sorry if this has been posted before. http://www.c5-corvette.com/redline.htm
I meticulously drained and filled my oil with 6.5 quarts a couple of weeks ago (I let it drain for five hours!). The next morning is showed 1/2 between full and add.
The 6.5 to 7 qt. debate has gone on at least since the '01s came out. Mine takes 6.75 to the full line when doing it exactly by the manual. Go figure! :yesnod:

You are over filling it if you put more than 6.5 quarts in it.
