Default Turn Signal and Hazard Light Problem

I have a 2001 coupe. My problem is the turn signals only work at random times, and the problem has been getting worse over time. I try running the hazard lights when the turn signal lights stop working, and they don't work either. Hazards work only when turn signals work. What's going on?

Check your codes. If you have a bunch of low voltage and turn signal circuit codes, then it's your battery. If not then the hazard switch is the likely culprit.

Likely problem is the hazard switch is going bad. Same switch controls bots turn signals and hazard lights. Lots of threads about this problem on the Forum. Some times turning the hazard switch on and off rapidly many time will clear the problem but it will come back.
Trust me, if you let yout Optima Red Top run down because there is 2 feet of snow on the road and your car is trapped in the garage for two months, you might get intermittant turn signal problems and these codes:
B2578 Right Front Turn Signal Monitor Circuit BCM Lighting Systems
B2583 Left Front Turn Signal Monitor Circuit BCM Lighting Systems
along with various codes like this:
U1300 Low voltage on the class 2 serial data circuit.
U1305 Low voltage or high voltage on the class 2 serial data circuit

Solution is to (remember to put the battery tender on!) charge the battery, clear the codes and turn signal problem fixed. If the above is not the problem, then it's the hazard switch.

voting for hazard switch also. they go bad. you can also get the hyper flash relay mod. bit easier to do than replacing the switch

Default Turn Signal and Hazard Light Problem

Thanks everyone. I will check out the codes and the hazard switch. Speaking of switch, is there a post on the Forum that explains how to remove and replace the switch?

Default EASY FIX...for me at least

I had the same problem as above and it drove me crazy!

Soon after this started I installed LED tails and LED bulbs in the front and needed a hyperflash harness.

I have not had the problem since installing the hyper flash harness. It is MUCH easier to install a hyperflash harness than replace the OEM flasher and the cost is around $10 more. ($60 from a forum vendor)

I tried to remove my hazard switch but is was not moving. I was afarid if I used the forced approach I would damage the mounting that retains it. I went with the hyper flash fix. It could be the multifuction switch also. There are posts here on how to "fix" which may or may not resolve it. They are about $100-120 dollars and not that hard to replace with great guidance here on the Forum.
