Default Oil pressure should be...?

I looked in the FAQ and it said that oil pressure on LS1 cars should be 18-24psi? Is this correct? Is more oil pressure bad?

Mine is that range at idle. When going down the road at 70-85mph mine reads around 40psi +/-

18 is on the low side at idle but there are so many factors that affect it and every car seems different...I can tell you what happens below 10 and at 0

Like every car with a positive displacement oil pump, the oil pressure GOES UP with increased engine RPM until the pump hits its pressure relief point.

LS1/LS6 will typically run the following approximate oil pressure with hot (200 deg F on DIC) Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30.

Idle = 30 PSI
2000 RPM = 40
3000 RPM = 50
4000 RPM = 60
5000 RPM = 70

Oil pressure increases about 10 PSI for every 1000 RPM increase. 70 PSI is about the max you will see with hot oil at high RPM as the oil pump goes into pressure relief around there.

Go out and see how your oil pressure gauge compares to this info.
