Im still in a major cross roads of what to do with my engine. But I feel like I would like to do a 150ish shot of nitrous in the mean time. Not too expensive and I can use it with whichever route I decide on.
I dont know which type of kit to get, or much about nitrous at all, and I want as much of a direct fitment as possible. Seems like a throttle plate style is the best for this?
What are you guys running? And what do you recommend after your experience?
My car is a 99 A4 base model, 76k, with stock internals and bolt on mods. Major work so far is to the drive train and suspension. The car is just waiting for more power! I hook instantly with my MT drag radials. I consistently run 8.2 1/8th mile ET's at 87-88 mph. And 2.00 second 60 ft times. My launch is great, but after that, I basically wait till I get down the track. Its time for some power!
A "wet" kit requires the intake manifold to flow fuel and air, something it wasn't designed to do. I'd like to hear from nitrous users on this. Might want to post up in the forced induction/nitrous forum. I wonder if some cylinders, like the rear ones might tend to get lean?
The other option is a dry kit. There the extra fuel needs to come from the injectors and requires a nitrous tune as well as larger injectors.
BTW, you would really want to start out much lower on power, nitrous is rather brutal. It causes a torque spike instantly. A 150 shot would take care of that traction problem for you.
Probably the biggest problem with nitrous is the fact that it is addictive.....a 12 step program will eventually be required.
FWIW, my Nova handled a 100 shot out of the hole. Knocked .5 seconds off the ET and added about 9mph. A 150 shot off the line put the car on the bumper.
I've thought about it on my C5 as well......10.0 @ 135???
A 2-second 60' is not a great launch. Especially not with drag radials.

Lest we forget, its a base model automatic. Looking at my time slips before the tires and stall upgrade, my 60ft was in the 2.4-2.5 range.
And I forgot... you have to be very specific on this forum to avoid bashings from those who don't know the facts. Ive mentioned this in several threads before, but will again, I race on a (for lack of a better word) "parking lot" jerry rigged into an 1/8th mile drag strip in front of a stadium. No track prep is done, and its your typical, worn, rocky parking lot with un smooth surfaces. My 2.00 60ft times are impressive there compared to 100's of cars that show up to race.
Now regardless of the times. Its consistency that tells you whats needed. And in this case its more power.
Nitrous makes a fun car more fun. If your car is only fun when you spray, you will use it all the time and get tired of filling the bottle. Just food for thought.
I ran a wet kit on my C4 for years and never had an issue. Sold the car to a friend and he is still running it, so I wouldn't worry about the intake. Get a window switch so it doesn't activate before the rpm you pick (3k rpm or so) and shuts off at your chosen rpm, and have fun.
I'm running a Nitrous Outlet kit and very happy with it.
[QUOTE=Hot_Wheels;1583416411]I plan on spraying next month if the air sux at the rental - figure if I can't run into the 9's N/A, I'll have to spray my way!
Stock bottom, we'll probably start off with a 100 shot. It's been installed for a while but I like to run N/A. I'm hoping to go 9.7's QUOTE]
A simple and totally complete system by ZEX can be installed in about 3 hours correctly and is the safest kit out there. I used a 125 wet shot and 100 dry together without any issues back in the day. I ended burning a few valves when I had a money maker (nitrous outlet) jetted at 150 and hit the 100 dry.
Its sounding like a wet system is the way to go. The port system in the pics looks bad a$$, but pretty expensive. I know ZEX is good stuff, and they make some throttle injected kits.
So far Im thinking a ZEX wet, throttle injected system. 125 shot sounds good too.
I have a set of FAST 36lb injectors that were waiting for an engine build, but Ill see if they will be useful in tuning for the nitrous kit.
Ok, system part number 82195 from ZEX is a direct fit throttle injection system with a 10lb bottle etc. After research it sound really good. It comes with 100, 150, 200, and 250 jets.
Luckily I have a FAST 92 and LS2 TB installed because the kits only come with an LS2 style throttle spacer plate.
Now I need help on one last thing. Will the stock fuel pump be good for the 100 shot? 150 shot? How does one know when to upgrade the fuel pump?
I'm running a TNT dual nozzle power ring 150 wet shot on a forged LS3 stroker. TNT systems were one of the hardest hitting on the market when they were in business. 150hp and about 175tq.
Im pretty well set on the kit I want. Now Im just wondering about a fuel pump upgrade. Is there some kind of chart that gives what size fuel pump is needed in relation to power levels? I may just start a new thread for this.
I was running 10's with the stock fuel pump. That was with the 225 shot on a stock motor.
All cars are different so pick up a boostapump for security.
Good advice. I spoke to my tuner too who said that the stock should be fine for 600ish crank power. So I think I will be fine for now. Ill definitely get a gauge on my fuel line now that Im playing with power adders.

Here's my advice... Go with a wet kit, plate. Make sure to get a window switch to control start/end spray. Also, make sure you get solenoids large enough to handle the hit. Seen a lot stick open because people are trying to out too much through baby solenoids. My old kit (was spraying 175) was a nitro Dave's plate, nx solenoids (good for 300 hit), trick performance window switch (super easy to wire in, loved it), and a 15lb bottle.
Make sure you run colder plugs and pull some timing. I prefer to let my tuner pull any necessary timing. Get a fuel pump too.
