'01 Won't Start
New here. Hoping you can lend some insight into the complex electronic world of the Corvette. haha
Got an '01 which was on trickle charge, but thought the battery died as when we went to start it, it wouldn't go, just clicked.
Figured it was a weak battery, so we tried jumping it off a BMW SUV, as well as a Chev 2500 Diesel. We also have the charger's 50A start mode which we added, no dice. Just clicks.
We removed the suspect battery and connected directly to a bank of 4 huge deep cycles in parallel, along with the 50A start-mode charger attached. Same thing, just clicks. That *should* be enough power unless the deep cycles don't have much for CCA... even then, with four of them plus the 50A starter it should be enough amperage... strangely we see ~6V on the dash. Could be a computer thing, though. We tried in series thinking they might be 6V batteries, but were very, very wrong. (Where's a voltmeter when you need one!)
Made me think it could be something else at play here. We've got a new battery coming tonight, but just wanted to get your thoughts on if it could be something else. That way when I get back there tonight and if it doesn't work, I at least have some alternate theories to test out.
Thanks in advance!
Sad thing: We cooked the headlights with our (unintentional) 24V experiment. At least she's running and none of the computers got cooked!

What's the deal with jumps not working anyways? Need heavy gauge jumper cables?

I can see it now. Five batteries stacked around the side of the car connected with 6 sets of jumper cables, four battery chargers sitting in front of the car, leads lumped over the fender with the AMP meters pegged out and smoke pouring out of the head light motors!

WHOOOO!!

The car had a cornary thinking you were trying to make it into a Chevy VOLT!

You either have a starter solenoid issue OR you have a Theft Deterrent Relay (TDR) problem.
Check out this schematic. It will provide you ALL the circuits involved in allowing the starter to crank the engine.
The heart of the circuit is the TDR Relay as it has the the control circuit on one side and the start/crank solenoid power on the other.
Figure out what your missing.
Oh,, Attempt the Crank procedure and have someone BANG the starter with a mallet. If it cranks,,, the solenoid is BAD or the wires on the solenoid are loose / damaged.
