Good the bad and the ugly!
replaced ignition switch with OEM and cleared all the codes. Started and HVAC all worked now and dash lights clear.
took for a short ride and ABS, ACTIVE handling lights all IMI ages and DIC states Seevice ABS, traction control and active handling. The following codes were present
(Next post)
Cleared them, started car and drove less than 1/2 mile. Lights came back in, DIC messages reappeared and when I shut off and checked codes.... you guessed it, same codes and they have the H after them
When I clear them and start car all is good. Let run 5 minutes. Soon as I sorry im driving or in a meeting right now will get back to you when i am free. thanks! The block they return as before
BEFORE you shut the car off then check the codes and see if they are current !!...if they are it looks like you have DTC’s for both left and eight wheel speed sensors...this will set the 1248... I would check connections at the speed sensors...you have a short harness about 8 inches long...make sure there is no corrosion and connections feel tight !!...has ANY previous work been done to the car...I always forget to ask this !!
Thanks and I will check these out this afternoon.
I just bought the car so not sure on prior front end work. It is 2002 with 26k miles. One owner car.
i read somewhere that wheel bearings can trip these codes as well. I’ll start with the short harness and connections. I appreciate the help for sure. This is the only issue I have left to get this ride back to basics.
With only 26K on the clock I would be more concerned about wiring issues...If you connect a DVOM
to the wheel speed sensors at the hub and with AC selected (they produce an AC current) spin the hub and you should see more than 100mV if OK !!...the resistance across the terminals should be between 850-1350 ohms !!...best thing is to have a scan tool where you can graph the signal as you drive down the road !!!...and from the short harness the wiring goes to the EBCM...you should also see a 5 volt reference on one of the 2 wires with key ON !!
Everything checks out when checked wiring as described. Each time I start the car the lights and DIC messages are gone but soon as I move they come back on. I have ran the harness and checked connectors and wiring. Didn’t have a scan tool to check during a run though. Still only get the codes for ABS and the two front wheel sensors.
wondering if it would be a waste to replace both sensors and the short harnesses? Had replacing parts to search for an issue but it at my wits end.
have ordered all three shop manuals to hopefully give me more to work with. Any ideas?
