I have 98 (not z06) corvette, and so far I install exhaust and I'm ready to install lg long tube header(street version), but I can't decide between magic stick 3 or magic stick 4 to get so some suggestions or info will help me decide. Also I'm looking for vendor to get cold air intake for my 98. Thanks in advance for all the help!!!
HMMMMMMMMM,,,,,,,,,,, Unless you upgrade to better flowing and better compression heads, a MASIVE cam is not what you need. Do you plan on changing heads???????
When you swap CAMS (especially getting a LARGE Cam),,,,, you have a LOT of other MANDITORY up-grades that need to be accomplished or you risk significant cam and engine failure issues.
VARARAM is one of the best true cold air intakes on the market and will give you a true track et IMPROVEMENT.
Please answer these questions:
- What are your HP/TQ increase goals? How much do you THINK the stuff that you installed and plan on installing will give you HP/TQ wise???
- Do you plan on obtaining a 2001+ or ZO6 intake manifold or an aftermarket FAST 90/92 manifold?
- What injectors are you up-grading to?
- What Valve Springs are you up-grading to?
- What valve train up-grades are you planning on installing with the cam?
Thank you for the detail answer, I don't have any hp goal or anything like that. All I'm looking for is the sound of having cam, and I'm not getting anything else else after I install the cold air and cam. So what u will suggest me to do at this point, and I really want the aggressive sound of cam. Thank you.
I certainly agree with Bill. There is alot to account for when you start thinking about swapping cams. Do your research and take your time deciding. Call a couple of shops and get their feedback as well. Along with Bill's suggestion of questions to ask yourself you also need to consider your budget. If you are going to crack into an engine and plan to do the build right, then things can get expensive very quickly.
I would very much avoid getting the largest cam you can stuff in an LS1. Your ease of driving and loss of low end torque will not make you a happy person.
Good luck with your search. There is a TON of information on this board to help you along. After a while of reading you'll start to figure out exactly what you want.
You might want to try a smaller cam shift with a lower LSA. That is probably a better option than just a massive cam. The lower LSA cams generally have a little more lope at idle. Like Bill and the others have suggested, you need to talk to a performance shop and get recommendations. You cannot just change out a cam.
