Hurst Shifter/ First Impressions plus Install Tips
I have been reading all the posts from others for several months and can finally post my own review.
I would recommend this shifter to everyone. Night and day compared to stock. Shifts are tight and crisp. I went with both the soft inner and soft outer springs. Shift effort is not nearly as hard to me as others have reported. I also have no noise issues. (see Dust Cover below)
Install Tips
Shift Stops/ I debated on taking these out. After a call to Hurst Tech Support...I decided to leave them in. After adjusting per instructions...I was concerned that I might have the stops too close to the shifter. I then fine tuned the stop adjustment by putting a piece of notebook paper between the stop and the shift lever. When I could push/pull on the lever and still remove the paper...I figured I had it right. Locktite per instructions.
Dust cover/I turned the stock dust cover inside out as per instructions. The fit around the Hurst was good...but not quite tight enough. I added a tie-wrap around the rubber boot and snugged it up tight to the shifter base.
I think this mod alone greatly reduced any noise isssues. I did not have to add any additional materials (hose, tape, weights, etc.) other than the stock dust cover as described above.
Shift Boot/I debated on purchasing the Ken King shift boot... but the stock boot works great with my round Kirban Billet Shift ****.
Re: Hurst Shifter/ First Impressions plus Install Tips (6 ONFLR)
6 ONFLR, I fitted my Hurst last Sunday and then removed the throw adjustment screws today when they interfered with 1-3-5 & R after about 100 miles of driving. You say you talked to Hurst technical support, what did they say that helped you decide to keep them in ?
