Default Electrical issue

Lately I have had a problem when driving my car it would die while driving down the road. Even if you give it gas it would not go. After a few seconds it would come back and drive like normal. The problem was very random and intermitten so I could not do anything about diagnosing it. Now today I was driving and it died and would not come back. I had to pull over and tried a few things. It started everytime I turned the key. It would rev up like a normal start and then die immediately. I then held the key in the start position and the car would continue to run. If I let the key fall back to the run position it would die. If I turned the key back to start before the engine stopped turning over it would pick back up and run like normal. I was able to drive the car home by holding the key in the start position. The starter was not grinding or staying engaged.

Anyone else had this problem? It seems to me that the ingnition switch has a dead spot and it not telling the car to stay running in the run position. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks
Doug

I think you need an answer to this problem. I'm going to give you a bump and ask you a question. Have you gone to your DIC and tried to pull any codes? I think we both know its an ignition related/key related issue.
Get back to us with the "codes" question.

Sounds like you may have an issue with your ignition switch. Bill Curlee's how-to may be just what you need: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ch-repair.html

It is possible/likely that your "RUN" contacts are burnt.

I have not had to repair/replace my ignition switch, but it looks to be a fairly straightforward removal/installation. The repairs seem to be straightforward as well (cleaning up the contacts inside the switch).

Hopefully, Bill will see read this thread and chime in. If it really is your ignition switch, he is the one to consult.

Hope this helps...

No codes in the DIC for this.

Thanks for the link to Bill's writeup. I had searched but it was either really far back (10+pages back) in the results or I overlooked it. Its saved in my favorites now and when I get back from this work trip I will be checking my switch out.
