I see that Trick Flow Specialties makes a retrofit kit, which allows you to install a special bracket to an LS1 block, which then mounts a LS2 style timing chain tensioner. Has anyone here ever used one? If so, did it work well for you?
I beleive what you are referring to is a timing chain dampener. There used to be some modified ls2 dampeners retrofitted for our blocks on ebay, but I haven't seen this product. Interesting to know that these are made now. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...s6-blocks.html

Yeah, that's the part I'm referring to. I'm probably going to replace my harmonic damper this summer, and while apart that far, I'm considering replacing the timing chain with an LS2 piece. Thought that while in there, adding the Trick Flow chain damper, since the LS1s supposedly don't have them.
I have seen several guys buy them but then provide no feedback or photos of the installation. Seems like a neat idea but from the photos it appears to go under the cam plate so I wonder how the cam plate seals. Then again, never got any feedback to confirm how it is installed.
Sorry, did all that work and didn't take one photo! Dyno tuned and didn't take any videos or sound bites.
The mounting plate is stiffer than I was expecting (which is a good thing). Still, its not the same as solidly bolted to the block. With the damper stuffed between the gears, there isn't enough room for anything to grab the damper. Its really just vibration that could cause a problem. TFS has the plate installed on top of the cam plate and three of bolts are replaced with button head cap screws for clearance. I loaded everything up with red loctite.
I had purchased the OEM LS1 damper from Katech and templated the location on the motor. In the end I didn't think I could accurately drill / tap the holes with the motor in car. The TFS damper was a much easier installation!
