Default New Oil Pump Install

Getting zero psig on the DIC & Analog; dipstick indicates full and no spray in the compartment or drips in the drive. Drove home from the store, went back out 30 minutes later, & DIC screamed at me, so I drove it 60' to the garage. No knocking or anything, but you could tell she wasn't getting oil, not as smooth & heating rapidly. Flat bed to the dealer today.

Q: Any experience on this on costs? What is the approximate threshold I should call reasonble or getting screwed?

Thanks Guys

This one should be on GM; it is a known problem (if it is the sticking spring) and was, in fact, identified during LS1 development. There have been quite a few posts on this, so I would do a search and take any/all documentation to the dealer with you! Good Luck... keep us informed. :)

I've done a search & read up; have a good one for back up, but no mention of price in it........in case I have no alternative.

Thanks,

I'd say 3-4 hrs labor, max.

I'd say 6 hours minimum, if the engine stays in the car. The entire front of the engine needs to come apart.

GM should cover it under warranty.

I just did the same thing on my car, in under 4 hours, surely GM can do it quicker than I :). They need to:
remove the front wheels, remove the steering rack, remove the pulley, remove timing cover, remove oil pickup tube, remove oil pump, put new on on, put timing cover back on, put the pulley back on, reinstall the steering rack and put the front wheels on. Voila.

Wow, you work quick. Want to fly out to California and replace my pump? :D

Ouch! Don't drive even 5 feet or turn over the engine again. Flatbed straight to the dealer. Bearing damage happens fast. Been there..

They removed the intake manifold ("plenum") & installed a new "sensor"; everything seems to be in order & running smooth. Dose this sound right to you guys?

Yes, the oil pressure sending unit is located on the driver's side rear of the engine block, right behind the intake. The intake must be removed to get to it.

More prollems. I'm documenting with this. Any input is appreciated. They removed the intake manifold ("plenum") & installed a new "sensor". Now I fluctuate between zero at start to 12 psi at idle (after throttle blip) to 40 at cruise.

To Whom it May Concern:

Whereas: I, Mike Futch, recently delivered my vehicle to *** ***** Chevrolet for service related specifically to zero oil pressure readings;

Whereas: I, Mike Futch, specifically informed the service department my belief that the oil pump should be replaced;

Whereas: The vehicle in question is a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette;

Whereas: The vehicle was returned to me and described as fixed;

Whereas: I, Mike Futch, have researched the topic of low oil pressure readings specific to 2000 Chevrolet Corvettes and included documentation forthwith;

Whereas: The service department has been made aware of this information;

Therefore: This shall document that my concerns have been relayed in a timely fashion to the appropriate entity, **** ***** Chevrolet, who implicitly warrants all Diagnoses & Work performed under its name. I, Mike Futch, intend to hold **** ***** Chevrolet financially liable for any future engine damage resulting from misdiagnosis of and ineffective repairs to the LS-1 lubrication system specifically related to oil pump failure.

The vehicle in question is garaged at ***** ****py Lane in Fishers, IN and is available for immediate inspection upon request.
