Default cleaning ring lands

Hi all. Doing head swap and there's a lot of gunk and grit that has fallen on the pistons and is sitting in the ring lands. Shop vac isn't getting it all. Any of you have an idea about how to clean those out before I start moving the motor?

Thanks!

soft brass brush and brake clean. let them soak in brake clean for a few minutes, use the brass brush and shop vac out. brass is softer than the sleeve and won't scar it. i would avoid stainless brushes or anything that could effect the hone

Thanks! Is it safe to move to TDC to do this or should I try to get the brush down in there. Could trim the handle. I think a couple are near BDC.

Try spraying the brake or carb cleaner in there first and vacuuming it out before it evaporates. You dont wanna scratch the cylinder wall by moving the pistons if they have gunk in the ring lands.

Old trick that usually gets the crap out... Take your shop vac, and a drinking straw w/ a cup...

Make a small hole in the cup, insert straw into cup... Tape straw to cup and seal tightly...

Put cup onto shop vac and again, make sure its sealed tightly...

Now you have a vacuum probe... suck all the crap up...

wouldn't a shop vac in a small funnel be a little easier?

I tried that originally hahahaha...

Straw was more flexible, and smaller so it could get the cracks better..
