So ive been having intermittent no start issues with my corvette. Sometime the car starts jsut fine with the key others stick the key in the security light goes out all the gauges sweep and the radio works go to start and nothing happens. the only codes i have are
B0502
B0507
B2482
I know the 0502 and 0507 are related to the switchback LED turnsignals i have.
I have already replaced the clutch safety switch, the ignition switch and the Theft Deterrent Relay. I checked all the wires at the starter they are all tight. The only way i can start the car when this happens is jumping the red and purple wires at the TDR andwith the key in the on position the car starts right up. and stays running and will even start with the key most of the time after i shut it off unless i drive more than 3 miles and the when i shut it off it wont start with the key again.
Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
my 03 would do the same thing. i pulled up on the pos cable going to the starter and it would crank right up. the last time i changed the oil i tightened the pos cable to the starter sol and i have not had this happen again. when i put the wrench on the starter sol to tighten i probably only turned the nut about 1/16th of a turn. i would not have considered it to be loose, but apparenly it was just enough to cause a low voltage situation to the starter. you might try this, wont cost anything?
By jumpering the red and violet wires at the TDR, you are proving that the starter is okay if it cranks and starts every time. Check your switch voltage at the TDR when you try to start and verify 12 volts, the other wire to the TDR with a strip is ground coming from the BCM, both have to be present in order to energize the TDR, hope this helps. Regards
Still no joy. I jacked up the car last night and did an oil change and put a wrench on the positive nut for the starter and was able to get almost a quarter turn on it. Finished the oil change dropped the car and it started worked fine all last night. Woke up this morning and it wont start. let it sit for a few hours came back out put the key in started it let it run for a few seconds turned it off and tried to start it again immediately with out removing the key, nothing happened. so I'm starting to lean towards a bad spot on the starter motor or solenoid
Thanks everyone for your replies, I just installed a new starter and so far it seems to have fixed the problem. I also noticed it starts a lot faster now. I just wish I had ordered my oil cooler before this so I could install it while I had the exhaust down instead of having to drop it again when it gets here.
