Im trying to decide which chain/ gears to go with for my 01 z06 cam swap. Ive been reading that the ls2 chains have alot of slack on the stock gears but i was wondering if anyone has used the c5r chain on the stock ls6 gears. My last resort is this http://texas-speed.com/p-3930-cloyes...-bolt-cam.aspx but its a little more than i want to pay. I guess you get what you pay for though. Thanks
Yes, that is the C5R chain from Katech. As stated above, there were some knock offs being sold. Also, be aware, IWIS makes several chains of varying quality and the same pitch. If you buy the C5R make sure you know what you are getting.
On my current setup I went with a Cloyes Hex-Adjust with the IRL (Indy Racing Legue) chain. This was the best single chain ever produced for the LS1 and it was hand made. I would have to pull my notes on it but as I recall it was blueprinted and shot peened as well. The IRL chain was originally developed for the Olds Aurora motor being run in the Indy cars. Cloyes stopped making this chain several years ago because the Katech C5R chain was less money and the LS2 chain had come out. They had a bunch on the shelf unsold in their warehouse and SDPC bought them all about three years ago. They are hard to find buy may still be available.

hopefully this setup is worth the money cause it damn sure was expensive!
Shawn Miller is one of the leading engine builders around. He built my Darton Sleeved LS2 block 427 and used the best internals. He chose the Cloyes Hex Adjust timing set for the build.
I'm cheap. When I did my first cam swap, I just used the stock gearset, and a LS2 chain. Years later, there's been no issues with my timing set. If I remember, it was $28.
