Why does my car sound supercharged ???
I had a great ride to Cleveland and back to Columbus today and when I got home I washed the car and drove back to my house. When I got to the driveway, I noticed a high piched whirring sound in the car, it sounds like a supercharger. I looked under the hood and found nothing, it does not apear to be engine related. Could this be coming from my A4? Has anyone else heard anything like this?

I had that type of problem and it turned out to be a bad water pump. The dealership replaced it and the belt tensioner under warranty. :)

BIG99-
I have exactly the same problem with mine. But the problem isn't the A4, it's the alternator. I had a vibration problem with my vette at idle in drive. After some research, turns out there's a TSB from GM on this very issue, and the alternator, idler pulley and tensioner were replaced by the dealer. I had no whine before the replacement of these parts, but certainly have it now. I've had it looked at again since the noise started, but the dealer informs me that more likely that not, any replacement alternator will have the same issue.
It's subtle and can be drowned out by having the radio on even at lower levels, but it still bothers me a little. Actually, the whine wouldn't bother me at all if I had the additional ponies that go along the the s.c. it sounds like :lol:

If the sound is coming from over your shoulder as you sit in the car it could be your fuel pump.

My 98 MN6 has the same whine. While at the dealer last week for other repairs (a very reputable Vette dealership) told me it was the alternator. He said some are noiser than others and not to worry about it. When I get my Borla Stingers on next week, I bet I won't hear it then
