Took my 2000 in to the dealer for a wheel alignment at which time the dealer said the recall for the Elec Column Lock had not been accomplished on this vehicle. So they did the alignment and the recall and when I drove the car the next day the Check Engine light came on and kicked the following codes; P0135, P0141 & P0161. Never had these codes before and I believe the tech at the dealer "tickled" the system to set codes so I would have to bring the car back to them and spend more dollars. The service rep sez they could not have done this. I do not trust dealers.
Well, there isn't really a way to "tickle" the car into throwing a code a little later.
The first 2 are saying the bank1 or drivers side O2 sensors took too long to heat up and start working. The third is saying the rear bank2 or passenger side O2 sensor heater isn't working.
I would suspect there is a ground issue. I think the ground wires for the )2 sensors all go to a ground splice pack down by the battery and then there is a ground wire from that pack going to the engine. The splice pack looks like a multi-terminal connector with all black wires going to it and a dummy connector plugged into it. The dummy connector is actually a bunch of pins all connected together which in turn connect all the wires in the splice pack together once it's plugged in.
And yes, you likely will be sorry they did the column lock recall. Well, maybe not sorry but you'll still be fixing it yourself with a column lock bypass harness at some point.
Well, the one code is for a front O2 sensor and you can't turn then off so I doubt the reprogramming had anything to do with that appearing. But, I believe the reprogramming would have changed everything back to factory so you lost the programming you had done.
Update, the current recall for the ECL, #04006C dated Feb 8, 2006 does not require reprogramming of the PCM. Only Canadian and export vehicles with manual trans and export vehicles with auto trans require reprogramming the PCM.
The recall only involves swapping out the lock plate and installing a harness & relay. The steering column will no longer lock when the key is removed.
The dealer printed a copy of the recall & I verified the info.
