Default Pull Key and Reduced Engine Power

I changed the oil in the Vette this weekend. After finishing I was backing out and and I got the pull key wait 10 seconds message. I turned the car off and started it and it went away. I did not get a lock on the steering wheel. So I take off down the road and get into it a bit and get the reduced engine power and cost to a stop. So I turn the car off, fire it back up and down the road I go. I took my Optima red top battery in to be tested and it shows that it is good. I plan and pulling some codes tonight but was curious if anyone has these happen at the same time. Also is it typical to be able to turn it off start it up and not have the problem repeat? Should I replace the battery even if it is testing good?

Have any of the recalls been perfomed on the vehicle? The part about it going away after a restart is interesting. This happened to me at a gas station on my way to the track, and I was not so fortunate. It would shut off at 2mph or so. Just before calling the tow truck, I called my wife to bring the me the HP tuners to bypass the fuel cutoff. That helped me get home, but I still had the annoying message on the dash. Ordered a CLB kit and problem is now gone. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

sorry I did not get back sooner. I do not know if any recalls have been done. Can I call GM and give them the VIN and they will tell me? It gave me all the signs that it was going to lock up but I turned it off and started her up and off we went.

To the end of the thread for some info on what the Column Lock problem is and the alternatives you have if your car is subject to the Column Lock Symptoms.
u are so wrong !!!! any vette 97-04 auto or man can have this problem even if every gm recall has been done and that is mainly the reason it happens is because of the recall!!! order a lmc5 and be done with it ive had a 03 and a have a 98 now both had the issue installed the lmc5 and no more problems

Everything I've seen says the 01-04 automatics do not have this problem.

Oops!! Since you're a junior member (5 posts as of this writing), just be aware that there are several folks here on the forum that are bonafide experts on the C5 (not me however), so take note of the amount of stars under the username. Those with many stars have posted thousands of times and know their stuff. 8Vette7 is one of those absolute bonafide experts and is one of the most helpful members on the site (Bill Curlee and Evil-Twin are a couple more that come to mind). You stated that you had the column lock problem with an 03, so I'll ask, was it a manual transmission? Please don't take this as any dis-ing of you.. we're all in this together and we work together to enjoy our rides and share our experiences. Since we drive performance cars, problems do occur and we look for solutions here with each other. Trust 8Vette7, he will NOT steer you wrong. Off the soapbox....
