I bought my first '02 Vette last week and have been itching to do a little modification to it. I was wondering what the best bang for the buck would be..... btw it's an automatic convertable.
You want bang for the buck? Think about a Transgo shift kit!! It will give you crisp kickin' shifts every time and you WILL feel it in the seat of your pants.....GUARANTEED!!:smash:
The kit is about $109 and the install should be between $160-$200....Well worth it .... a very gratifying but inexpensive mod for the A4:D
You want more..well how deep are your pockets? How fast do you want to go?
I would have to throw in my vote for the Halltech Tric/Mag/Cobra intake system. This is more expensive than the Vortex, but have seen side-by-side (same car) dyno comparisons and the Halltech beats the Vortex by a couple ponies and lb-ft of torque.
Tough question, as it is a cost/benefit question. If you're talking the drag strip, then nitrous, no question. Real world, I'd start with an intake (no religious wars necessary, they're all pretty good). That will breathe life into it (OK, bad pun). After that, gears and a torque converter, but I'd honestly do those as part of either a supercharger or a head/cam install. Both much pricier.
Or you can do what I'm doing: 422, Supercharger, Gears, TQ, etc.
TC an gears, along with intake and PCM reprogram= really BIG improvement. Nice choice on the vert. Everyone knows verts are the best. :yesnod:  :jester
Welcome to the forum. In my opinion, the first thing to do is buy an aftermarket intake system (you can search the forum to find out why everyone has their own personal favorite). After that, there are many variables to ponder because everyone is looking for something slightly different.
What do you use your car for? What are your expectations out of it? Is more horspower what you are after? Or do you really want to improve the looks? Or is it the handling that you really want to improve upon?
As for performance, I think an air intake such as the Blackwing or Vortex for around $225 is the best bang for the buck. If you want something that improves upon looks, sound and performance, then a good exhaust system is the way to go. For $600-800 you can get a system that will make your car sound like it has 200hp more than it did before even though you only gained 5-10hp, and of course the tips will HUGELY improve the blah look of the stock exhaust system.
