Default Problem after Long Tube Header install.

I just installed JBA Long Tube Headers. I changed out the stock Cats for high flow cats. I already have Corsa X-Pipe and Billy Boat exhaust system. It took a while and it was a bear to get everything hooked up correctly. First start up was awesome!! I crawled under to check for leaks, etc. All was fine.

My problem is as follows: "Check Engine" light stays on when running. I rechecked all four 02 Sensors, they are correctly hooked up. When running, temp gauge on DIC shows: "Coolant temp: XXX", and my analog gauge rolls over to max temp: 260 deg. When I cut engine, with acc on,
both indicators show correct readings (174F).

Anyone have a clue?

Pull your codes, I'd be willing to bet you have a P0420/P0430 code for the rear O2 sensors because of the high flow cats.
Also, check the connector/wires for the coolant temp sensor, it's located between the alternator and cylinder 1's exhaust bank, good chance you damaged/disconnected it while installing the headers.

I concur. You need to have the rear O2 sensors removed from the computer via a tune.

He's probably right about the temperature sensor too. When I remove and install my headers for any reason I remove the plugs and this sensor since they are the main things that can break should the headers get caught on them - I mostly think it's the weight of the headers accidentally resting on them that causes them to crack and go bad. AFAIK this sensor is pretty cheap.

I'd also check the grounds on the engine block and frame that you likely disconnected when you installed the headers. Or else you possibly buggered up something else in the wiring. Also, look up how to pull the codes with the DIC so you can figure out what is actually causing the CEL.

Also, headers and high flow cats does not mean you must turn-off the rear O2 sensors. I've been running them active for 2 seasons without a code..

You either cracked or broke the temp sender.

First thing! What codes are coming up! With headers and high flow cats, back o2's have a harder time to get to the proper Temp!

It's actually the fronts that will have trouble because headers move them farther away from the ports thus their heater is no longer strong enough. Which is why for header installs you typically use the rear type of o2 sensor in the front bungs.

I've never had to tune out the rear sensors with hi-flow cats. I'll bet dollars to donuts its his fronts that are throwing codes.

Another question. What does pull your codes mean? I have a Superchips Max Microtuner for my car.

you can pull codes right off your car without any special code readers. Press options button and hold while pressing fuel button 4 times quickly. The car will go into diagnostics mode it will list your codes followed by an H or C or both. H = History, C= Current. Write all the codes down including the H and C and post them here. I'm sure someone can help you if you get those posted. At least it will be a start.

another common problem is switching the left and right 02 sensor when installing long tubes.

When I pull/install mine I remove the plugs and then put a socket over the sensor to protect it from being banged. That way you don't have to drain any coolant
