Had my 40 K miles 1999 C5 in storage for about a year in dry storage with a cover on it with the battery out of the car.I took it out for the first time TODAY and it fired up just fine so I changed the oil and antifreeze.Take it out for a drive and under normal driving conditions IE pulling out from a stop with normal throttle and get up to around 30 MPH and the traction control/active handling mal functions for no reason and cuts the fuel / spark and back brakes come on as if the car was losing traction ?? Stops the car !! ?? Turn the system off and the car drives fine.Everything worked 100 % with the system before I put the car away.No message coming up to service the traction control. Turn the car off, and restart and the same thing happens, and I have to turn the system off or the car will come to a dead stop ?? I have to leave the TCS in non operational mode to drive the car ?? Any ideas as to what the cause could be, and the needed action to fix the problem ? Thanks in advance for any advice, and pointing me in the right direction.
I didn't get a chance to scan to see what codes come up.I didn't have the scanner with me when I went to the storage garage. The car has stock size run flats. All I did to the car was change the oil and antifreeze and rotate the tires from front to back.Thought I would ask if anyone ever had a similar experience.Ran fine before I stored the car. Drove the car and the traction control or active handling seems to stop the car for no reason during normal driving.Hit the button and turn it off and the car rhen runs OK.I will have to put a scanner on it and see what codes come up.THANKS
Thanks for pointing out the error on the tires size front to back.Me so STOOPID for not checking that LOL !! I actually knew the different sizing from front to back but totally forgot.Total error on my part.
I figured the problem was relatively simple because it was working fine. Before the tire switch.I will correct that. Thanks for your help and patience.
I had no problem at all doing the routine maintanence.I knew about the oil drain plug. And used a hex key and didn't break the drain plug on the rad.Changed the spark plugs and air filter etc... Late at night after doing all that, the last thing I did was spot the wear on the rear tires with out giving it a second thought moved the tires from front to back.
I can't believe I did that, because I did know the sizing difference !!
I was in the twilight zone !! LOL !!! I did suspect it was the tires switch causing the problem after giving it some thought and why I mentioned the tire switch. Lesson learned.Don't work like STOOPID in the future LOL !! Man I am so old school sometimes !!
I really should have put one of the smaller diameter tires on one side of the car and left the larger ones on the opposite side. That really would have helped things ! Especially on the rear, with one side turning faster than the other side LOL !!
