Service Traction System
I read various articles, having already searched the forums here for ideas, but this one seems unique.
I am getting the "Service Traction System" message, but it is popping up when I engage or disengage my high beams.
This is a new issue, and the only new changes to the car have been the addition of HID lamps. For reference, I run a pair of 55w ballasts with 55w 5000k bulbs for low beams with a set of 35w ballasts and 35w 5000k bulbs for high beams. Low beams have their own heavier gauge relays (not factory), while high beams fully utilize factory wiring. I did the Hi-4 wiring conversion so the lows remain on when the high beams engage. All fuses for highs, lows and relays are 10A.
I can turn the highs on or off several times at random while driving without tripping the error code. But eventually one time it will trip the code. I pulled over a few times tonight to shut the car off and restart (clear the Traction Control light and the error code from current memory) while testing this theory.
I did also notice that now with the lows on my accessory voltage readout on the DIC is 13.9 down from a usual range of 14.2 to 14.4.
My current theory is that the momentary fluctuation (thus far, predominantly when the Highs are turned OFF, but not always) causes an erratic reading which throws the code.
Beyond that??? This one feel out of my league to figure out.
The car is a 1999 Coupe 6spd. TC, but obviously no AH. Factory selectable suspension option, but now runs Bilstein shocks.
