Default Shift rod pin inside trans fell out HELP!

Hey guys I recently had my trans rebuilt with all kinds of issues since, the latest being my car stuck in 4th gear with only 2,000 miles after the t56 rebuild. I am 99% positive this here is the problem:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ic-inside.html

Here is my post when the issue first happened:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ssue-help.html

The local aamco shop will not work on my car so I had it towed to a better aamco in another town or them to start on the warranty claim. My question is, if all was fine before it was taken apart, and since aamco did the labor installing the pin etc shouldn't they be responsible for this happening so shortly after the rebuild? I am waiting on any further news from the shop, but just wanted people's opinions and wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Thanks

AAMCO called and if it is not covered by warranty they will charge $300 so far for dropping the torque tube down and checking everything out. I still have a feeling it is the problem in the above posted threads though. TTT anyone else ever have this problem?!?

I have a rubber sleeve that fits over that joint on mine. Not that a rubber boot should hold the pins in but, it would have. Yours should have that rubber sleeve also. It keeps debri out of the joints.

YES,, the pins should be a tight pressed fit and should never just fall out.

When I replaced my t-56 with a TRANSZILLA T-60/60 conversion, Chuck at Corvettes Of Westchester gave me a shift rod that had a small spot weld on each pin.

Good luck getting the shop to cover the repairs. If your are dead set on making them pay, you may have to take them to small claims court.

I just pulled my trans out of my 03 z06 to get it rebuilt..i saw that same pin your talking about...it seems to be in there pretty good, so I left mine in there so I would not mess anything up...secondly AAMCO is by far the worst place you can take your vette to get any type of work done on your car..best of luck with your process

That was my thinking also but,,,,,,,,,,,,,, That’s water under the bridge. He now has to fight for resolution. You know that they are going to blame the fault on the part that failed and not on their work. Ask them where the RUBBER SLEVE IS and why didn’t they reinstall it!!!

If they do the repairs,, make SURE that you inspect the pin and insure that it is being retained properly. Like I mentioned previously, you could have the pin TIG tack welded so that it will not come out again.

GM does NOT sell any of the parts separately so, unless you purchase a complete rod,,,, fix what you got. You can get the roll pins if they are needed.

those pins are tapered meaning one side is slightly bigger then the other side...smaller side I think goes down, after looking at mine again, so they are really just pressed into there...I agree with Bill on this one..i would have it TIG tacked into place so that issue would go away...

Should be a rubber boot over the "U-joint" on each end that keeps dirt/debris out and serve as a backup to prevent pin from falling out. I do not think the rubber sleeves are a replacement item from GM. Check the pictures in this listing. I see them all the time.

Install oversize pin or knurl the one you have, or maybe even use a roll pin.

Well guys the car is apart, aamco will not cover their labor under the warranty and the guy is not willing to work with me at all. The flywheel which was just recently resurfaced has hot spots on it pretty bad too, not sure why. Also foundout there is a oil leak from my oil pan I did not know about, and was told its 5 hours labor to change that gasket!

Can't understand why you still have your car in the hands of the place that has all ready reamed you out.

Just can't get enough or what?

Re read post #4.... in regards to that franchise shop.... it is the only thing that makes "Real Sense " in all this.
