Default Name that part...

I found this laying neatly under the front end of my car (in the garage).

Obviously it's some kind of fastener, but where did it come from? For those of you that know every nut, bolt and crappy plastic fastener on their car, can you tell me where this should go?

Specifics:

Head is 3/4" in diameter and it's 1 1/4" long

TIA

I'm going to guess it's one of those things that holds the cover on underneath your hood.

My first thought too, but they are much bigger.

Probably from one of two places 1) one of the fasteners that hold hood insulation in place 2) holder for one of the wiring looms in the front of the body. Not a biggie, visually check to see if anything is loose.

Two of those press into female ends and hold the panel above the passengers feet up. ;)

ohhhh... very close, but the head on those is bigger. Made me look though!

It almost looks as if this was an "extra" part left in my engine compartment at the factory. There's not a spec of dirt on it, so it must have been higher up in the engine compartment, and it is in pristene condition (e.g., doesn't look as if it was ever inserted or pulled out).

Thanks

3BVert,

It looks like a push in retainer. They don't easily fall out, so that is weird that it would be just lying there.

Could it have fallen out of the interior of the car?

It holds the kanooter valve in place so you can take out the muffler bearings with the 1/4" shaddick.

I believe it plugs into the center of your power steering pulley!! Mine has worked its way out occasionally and I just "PUSH" it back in. Hope that helps.

It could very well be extra. I found an extra cap that goes to the headlight assembly laying in the engine compartment near the radiator. No missing caps and no work done on the car in that area so it must have been extra.

It's the blinker fluid drain plug. Your blinkers probably no longer work. :D

Maybe my car is leaking plastic fasteners... has anyone seen a TSB on that?

Anyway, no biggie. I'll keep it in the console until I find where it goes or get tired of looking at it.

It looks like the plastic fastener that attaches the front quarter panel in the wheel well. My car came with a couple missing, so the parts dept gave a couple of those to push in. Had to turn the wheel out to get the forward one in, as there's not much room when the wheels are pointed straight ahead.

Yep, this same question comes up often. Its out of the PS pulley.
