It runs so strong at ~170K miles that I feel someone before me must have done something. I bought it from a great forum member (master mechanic) who had rebuilt the transmission in his shop, and did all of the good respiration mods that really wake up an LS1. Concerning the block, he went only as far in as replacing stock pushrods with chromoly versions. He was pleasantly surprised at how clean the topside was when he pulled the intake and valve covers, but he told me (to his knowledge) the heads had never been off. I guess I’m asking if a really close inspection of certain locations would tell me if the internals had seen daylight since 2001. If someone at the NSA is reading this, please respond also if you have a suggestion.

Reason: I'm old
You would be hard pressed to tell if the engine had any internal work done to it. Unless you opened it up and found NON OEM parts and gaskets, there really isnt any good way to tell.
Ive see the inside of too many to count LS1/6 engines and every damn one of them were just about spotless.
At 60K miles, my 02 Z cylinders still have cross hatch marks in the cylinder bores.
With the MUCH improved block/cylinder wall metallurgy and high quality synthetic oils, the LS series engines are EASILY able to crank ouyt 200K-250K miles (under normal wear and tear) without needing any block crank piston work.
