Shifter Noise
TIA
Bob

The ZO6 was never made to be really quiet. With that said, there shouldnt be an excessive amount of transmitted noise thru the shifter.
If you compare the ZO6 shift box to the NON ZO6 shift box, the ZO6 box is SOLID METAL BUSHING MOUNTED. The bushings that mount/isolate it from the Torque Tube are metal.
On the Non ZO6, they are RUBBER.
The metal bushings that mount to the TT give the ZO6 a very FIRM shifter but, its a little noisy.
Pull the console and make sure that the shift box is properly secured to the Torque Tube, the four screws that attach the shifter handle to the box are tight and the box shift rod to trans shift rod bolt is tight.
If you have a stock shift handle, up grading to an aftermarket makes a world of difference in shift quality. I have a KIRBAN Shifter and love it.
Its best to test out someones car that has an sftermarket shifter. If you like it, get it.
Mu kirban shifter does not make ant bad noises.

My car is not a Z06 so it still has the rubber bushed shift box, the shifter itself is from a Z06 that I shortened. Could it be that I need to get a new shifter box. I checked last week and all the bolts that mount the box and shifter are tight.

The C5 and C5 Z boxes are all the same. Only difference between the two are the METAL BUSHINGS Vs Rubber bushings. If yours buzzes now with the rubber bushings, it MAY buzz worse with solid bushings. NOTE! You can NOT just purchase the rubber or solid bushings seperately.
If you up graded at all, I would get an aftermarket shifter and BOX
Your rubber bushings may be deteroriated. If they are, that in its self can cause noise issues. I believe ZIP PRODUCTS sell a poly bushing as an upgrade over the stock rubber.
Some people change over to a C6 shifter/new shift box. The C6 upper shift handle is better than a C5 by a LOT.
When I purchased my 06 C6 MN6 Coupe, the very first scheduled mod was suppose to be a new aftermarket shifter (I hated the C5 OEM shifter that much
)After driving the C6 for a few weeks, I never changed the shifter.
Want to buy a new in the box never used B&M shifter??

Go test shift a C6 MN6 shifter to see how it feels. Its the same shift box but the handle /upper shift stick is shorter, more erogromic and bent to the left to have a better shift feel.

For now I think I'll try ordering a set of the bushings from Zip just to see if I can quiet it down. PM me and let me know what you want for the shifter, wasn't really thinking of changing but you just never know.
