I am thinking about purchasing/installing a Blackwing on my stock C-5. I have read there are some "learning issues" for the car to go through, but will there be other issues to deal with that will cause headaches for me? Thanks.
When you have everything apart,, use some MAF cleaner and clean the MAF. Just spray and flush the dirt of the wires and inside the MAF DO NOT touch the wires.
Use some brake parts cleaner anc clean the TB/ Throttle Blade.
DO NOT remove the MAF Screen!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once you install the airfilter, air bridge and rubber couplers,, inspect all the joints closely and make sure that they are AIR TIGHT.
You shouldn't have a problem. It swaps right in.
The one piece of advice as far as actual install goes, use some dielectric grease on the little rubber grommets on the front frame and on top of the radiator support, it helps A LOT when pushing the front of the blackwing on and getting the air bridge into the right spot.

Doing all that, you should be good to go.
Bill, one additional question here my friend...is "MAF cleaner" something I just go to NAPA or some other parts store and buy? Sorry, have never heard of it and only had the C5 for about a week and a half now.
I agree with the others. Never had an issue with codes from intake work in front of the TB. As long as the MAF isn't messed with negatively, the difference will be within the ability of the computer to correct for. Of course ideally a tune would be done for every mod, but thats just not practical now is it.
Hello Nuke and thanks. I will eventually get it "tuned", but not sure when. There are only two reasons I am really thinking about the Blackwing right now. First off, a little extra power and a pretty inexpensive price. The second reason is those darn clips on the stock air box will not stay latched for nothing!

Those are some good reasons, but honesty, if you think you are going to start chasing power in this car.. the blackwing is not going to stay on your car long. Id think about a full intake over the blackwing filter so you have something that will support future mods for a long time to come. Maybe a true CAI like the Calaway honker, or Varraram, or like me, simply a K&N or the like. Something that comes with an air bridge and deletes the baffles in front of the TB.
I believe it will be quite a while before I worry about any "real" extra power. I like the car a lot as it is and will enjoy it as it is for a while (need to rebuild cash reserves anyway).
Glenn,,, I can save you a crap ton of cash! I can show you how to positively keep the stock air box straps on with 0.01 cents (four tie wraps!) and 10 mins!
If you want a little better performing intake, upgrade you air box cover to a ZO6 cover or just cut or drill it.
Install a K&N filter in the modified air box.
I agree with NukeC5,,, Save your cash for an ALL IN ONE upgrade & tune event!!
VARARAM CAI, Headers and a TUNE = PERMAGRIN!
I have a well cared for low mileage K&N filter for very cheep!
Ive also see a single pop rivit secure it but, make sure that the head of the pop rivit is on the INSIDE LIP of the housing so it wont interfear with the filter.
The spring steel strap can be a bit tough to drill thru.
Wow, thanks again Bill. The straps stay on the airbox just fine, just won't stay latched down. In fact, they wont even go all the way down to the "locked" position. It is like they are too tight or something. I have taken the air filter out and made sure it was in the box correct and made sure the straps are where they are supposed to be. Not sue what is going on with it. I would like to take the whole air box out and look at it out of the car, but those rubber "holders" (they look like rubber looking through the front of the hood opening) won't seem to let the box loose. I read on here somewhere that all you have to do it slide your hand down there and push the box towards the front of the car. I tried that this past weekend and could not get it to budge. I might try some type of prying device to assist I guess, but don't want to break anything.
Or maybe it was push the box towards the rear of the car, I forget now. But I can see the rubber holders down there and I am trying to push it off of them.
Get something to pry/pop the box off those two pins. Spray some WD-40 on the rubber /pins and use the pry bar and just POP it off the pins.
It will either pop off or pop the grommet out of the box (no big deal) Once its out, it will pop back on a LOT easier. I bet you have the strap on the area to the LEFT or RIGHT of the place that its suppose to be!
