Default Converting to regular tires

Is there any special procedures to convert my car from run flat to regular tires. Also, is there any advantages to that besides a lot more selections of tires?

advantages are weight reduction, wider variety of tires, and better performance tires, and much cheaper tires.

stock size are 245/45 17 and 275/40 18. When ditching the run-flats, i went with Nitto NTO5's in 255/40 17 and 285/35 18. Those are basically one size larger all around and fit perfect.

If you are going to transition to nonrunflat tires it would be prudent to purchase a tire repair kit and tire inflator.

It is important to maintain the stagger from front to rear or issues may arise with active handling.

Stock Sizing
Front wheels are 17" x 8.5" with +58mm offset and backspacing is 7". Total wheel width is 9.5".
Rear wheels are 18" x 9.5" with +65mm offset with and backspacing is 7.5". Total wheel width is 10.5".

245/ 45 -17 25.7" diameter *4.3" sidewall (Front-stock size)
275 /40 -18 26.7"diameter * 4.3" sidewall (Rear-stock size)
Stagger 1"

295/ 35 -17 26.1" *diameter *4.0" sidewall
255 /40-18 25.0"*diameter *4.1" *sidewall
Stagger 1.1"

255/45-17 26.1" *diameter *4.5" sidewall
285/40-18 27.0" *diameter *4.5" sidewall
Stagger .9"

255/40-17 25.0"*diameter *4.0" sidewall
285/35-18 25.9"*diameter * 3.9" sidewall
Stagger .9"
Little lower profile for looks and a touch wider.

But realize, not all brands have the same tread width...... e.g., a Bridgestone PP or a Kuhmo MX have significantly wider tread than, say, a Goodyear D3.
go to the tire rack and check out the specs.

I would not go much wider than a 285 on the rear tire, pushing the stock rim width size a little. Also watch the sidewall or profile height. You may not like too low or too tall of a profile or a different profile size from front to rear.

Here is a handy tire size calculator I think I picked up on Toque's website. The calculator will also give you the speedometer calibration of change if you decide it is worth having a tuner change the setting for you.

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

Personally I went with Nitto Invo in stock sizing. Good Luck!

I did the same a couple of months ago. I kept every thing matched with the stock sizes, though. I put on a staggered set of Hankook V-12's and couldn't be happier; great ride, better traction, and sweet goodness, a much quieter ride. AND, at half the price.

There are so many good tires out there...I went with the Hankook's because of Forum recommendations, prior history with Hankooks on another car, and price.

Enjoy your new ride.

Gunny John

PS. I have a set of almost new Goodyear runcraps for sale.

I went with kumho tires. The runflats were getting really noisy, and when I went around corners, the car would slide because the rubber was getting hard.
With the new tires, the only noise I hear is when I am stopping, just almost stopped, the road noise is apparent.
Otherwise, they are pretty quiet. I went with the original sizes. In fact, I liked them so much, I put C5 wheels and these tires on my C4.
<----------------------nice upgrade.

I don't know where you got your figures from, but both your front and rear tires are smaller in diameter than stock.

Diameter yes, not width. These sizes are within the needed stagger difference between front and rear and do not cause any issues.

Call me old-fashioned, but when most people want to go with larger tires, they want to fill out the wheel wells more (increasing diameter). A side benefit is that they usually get wider as a result. 99.9% of the views of your car is from the side. No one will notice a 2/5" increase in width, but they will notice a sizable decrease in diameter.

Nuke, can you show us a side shot of your car? I'm curious as to how much of a difference your tire setup makes.

I am lowered on the stock suspension currently, and have a set of coilovers on the way as we speak actually. So I will be able to tuck the wheels nicely with the new setup. Ill see if i can find some shots from before though. It really makes no difference visually. I remember seeing that the diameter would be less, but upon holding the good-years and nittos side by side when I had them together, they were the same height.

Is there any way to turn the tps system off ? I have C6 rims on my car and am tired of the constant check your gauges warning on the hud. It would be nice to make that go away.

You can't do that via the C5's options, but I've heard that you can with a tuner. You should ask this question as a new thread and you'll get more knowledgeable responses. This question can easily be overlooked by those who know, if they don't read this unrelated thread.

Default Hankook V12 EVO Review

I bought these tires in Feb. 2010. It's now June of 2013. I have nearly 22,000 miles on them. They are nearly down to the wear indicators with 3/32" left on all four tires. I'm a cautious driver at 59 years old and don't do burnouts or aggresive turns. The tires seem to perform well in all conditions except snow. I'm somewhat disappointed in the mileage but they are a performance tire. I bought them from PeP Boys mounted, balanced and alignment for $900. I received a $200rebate on their Buy 3 Get One Free program. I think I got about the best any one can expect from these tires. The price was right at the time I bought them. I'd buy them again. I went with the stock tire size 17" front, 18" rears.

2001-2004 can have the TPMS turned off with a Tech II.
Honestly, the better option would be to just install working sensors.
