Does anybody have any recommendations on a deep trans pan for the A4. Also is there any clearance problems with a car that has been lowered 1 1/2"? How do you refill the trans after you replace the pan? Thanx guys!!
Alright, so I'm not one to wait. Got a factory GM deep pan and gasket today from their Performance Catalog. Now before I install it, how do you refill this thing?
Sorry you could not wait for a reply. I have a B&M deep pan and my transmission tech tapped a hole in the side for fill/drain. You can give him a call at 954-772-3000. Ask for Steve of Eastcoast Transmissions..:D
MitchC: It's in their Performance Parts catalog. It holds 2 extra quarts of fluid, part#24210915. I paid $30.00 from the dealer down the street and an additional $37.50 for the gasket and filter kit.
vstella: Hey, why did you take yours off? It was due to a previous post of yours that I bought one in the first place.
All.
Funny subject should come up today. I measured the stock C5 pan and it measures about 3-3/4" from the flange to the bottom of the dome.
I call it a dome, its the deepest circular portion of the pan. The "deep"
pan from GM is about 3" deep but has a shallower area about 3" from the
front. Now comes the tricky part. I didn't do the math but I don't think the deep pan holds 2 quarts more that the C5 pan, it holds 2 more than the stock 4L60E pan. Also the C5 Pan has that deep portion for racing.. the filter suction has a 3/4" snorkel that sits right down in the bottom of the dome. The stock filter will not fit in the deep pan and I would not use it if I were road racing.
By the way I called TCI last week to ask about a deep pan and they said they are working on a new casting for one.

The original GM pan wasn't deep enough. When we rebuilt the transmission I opted for a deeper pan with ribs for better cooling :yesnod: So far...So good:D
