Need a new compressor. What have you guys replaced with and has it held up?
The ebay kits, anyone tried them? Like http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-REPAIR-KIT-NEW-COMPRESSOR-CLUTCH-CHEVY-CORVETTE-C5-/120717171011?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_A ccessories&fits=Model%3ACorvette&hash=it em1c1b4dd943&vxp=mtr.
$264 for everything is close to falling in the category "too good to be true".
I have got one out of my '02Z with 67k miles. Worked great when I took it out. It comes with new seals you will need. $75 shipped and fully guaranteed.
My system had a leak and I had narrowed it down to the evaporator, but wanted to make sure it wasn't compressor before I tore the dash out. Obviously it wasn't the compressor.
I was tempted by the Ebay route myself, but decided I wanted some accountability in the short term if the "Ebay A/C Compressor" went south for whatever reason. I choose my local parts store O'Reilly's Auto Parts and purchased their "NEW" Murray A/C Compressor OEM replacement with warranty. It wasn't that much more to get "NEW" and I could actually put my hands on the parts counter and have a live body to handle any issue I may or may not have.
I replaced all the needed components and have frigid air still!
Be sure to get the dryer/accumlator, orifice, and use the "Flush kit" (MUST HAVE)which cleans out the old garbage out of the A/C lines.

I replaced mine with a brand new Delco. Did not want to take chances with a breakdown considering the amount of labor involved in the swap. Took all weekend.
Also replaced water pump at the same time, since it needed to be removed to get the compressor out.
For some reason, there were quite a few surplus Delphi V7 compressors available some time back. Some of these may have made their way to ebay sellers. They are the same as what is on a fourth gen F body (Camaro/Firebird) LS1, but with a different pulley. The prices were unbelievably cheap due to the supply situation.
Note that Delphi is the OEM compressor for this engine/car. Some units sold under the AC/Delco name are not built by Delphi, since they are not the same company. It varies by application. The V7 was designed for this engine/application originally- and yes, when replacing it, you should replace the receiver/dryer canister, vacuum it down, and charge it.
I recommend RockAuto.com. Good discount for OEM parts....I've used them for parts for all of my vehicles. (I am in no way associated with them other than being a customer...)
Has anyone even had a look at one of the ebay units? Curious to try it just because, if it wasn't for the labor intensity.
Well here's what happened to me, I ordered what was said to be a new Delphi or AC Delco compressor from a former forum vendor.
What I got was a New China compressor drop shipped from an Ebay supplier. On inspection it was exactly like the Delphi I removed from my 98 except for the leak.
Rather then leaving my car torn apart and taking more time for a simple repair I installed it.
I have to say at first I was a bit skeptical about it, but so far it's working fine and yes that is the brand name "New China" right on the tag.
Now what we should remember is since GM's bankruptcy Delphi and Delco no longer exist so it may be likely that GM has resourced this business to a China Co.
