Default EBCM woes?

I am looking at a 2002 that has the dreaded check, abs, active handling, traction control message. It has C1214 H also and the ABS light is on and the Active handling little wiggle light will not turn off. My local Chevy dealer will sell me a new EBCM for $1000 and install and program it for $300 with a 12 month warranty. I did not know they needed programming. Are the new EBCM's any better then the old ones longevity wise?

Ps The seller dropped the price $2000 for me to deal with this myself!

Nice. If you like the car grab it and see if it's something simple to fix. If not, replace the EBCM with a used one for about $300 to $400.

Programming? Nice rip off that is...

Even if they did programming (say a BCM replacement) it'd take like 5 minutes with the TechII, so that makes $300 a rip off either way.

Read, much posted subject. Confirm it's the ECBM and have it rebuilt for $150 with DIY removal and install.

Yep $150 fix (less if you do it yourself, a new relay is $2). Take the price drop from the seller but be SURE the 1214 is the only code.

I have been driving without mine for months now...I will take it out and send it to ABS fixer one day....

I would not let it stop me from buying a car!

buy the car. this is an easy fix. just fixed mine this weekend. took an hour or so. i used a torx bit with a ratchet and various extensions to remove some of the screws. i touched up the solder joints and it is fine. since i have all the tools, this was a free fix for me. follow the info 8vette7 posted.
