Hey guys, had a small car fire due to overheating diff fluid 2 weekends ago. I melted the speed sensor, spewed diff fluid all over the exhaust and caught the wiring harness on fire. In the process of inspecting now, and noticed that the bottom of the part in the photo has been melted. Can anybody identify this part. It looks like it has a vent line from the passenger fuel tank and a red 2 wire plug coming from it. Its located just above and to the right of the tranny.
That's the EVAP canister. The canister is filled with carbon pellets used in order to absorb and store the fuel vapors. Fuel vapor is stored in the canister until the powertrain control module (PCM) determines that the vapor can be consumed in the normal combustion process.
You can clearly see it on the right in this picture I took when I had my drivetrain out.
