I'm having a problem starting my car - I think I traced it to a 12v keyed-on wire that I spliced into not being connected to anything. I tried to start it and it didn't go.
I connected the 12v, and still didn't start. I'm now getting a clicking from the passanger side footwell. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it - when I reconnected it, one headlight went up.
I can't solve your problem but I think there is a starting point.
Check out your battery first, load test it at any or most auto parts stores for free. Make sure its in the 13.7 to 14.1 range. It needs to be measured with a dvm and not your DIC display.
The engine does not crank. When I turn the key to start it, all that happens is a clicking.
I believe the security light blinks constantly. Even with the key out.
I'll pull the codes when I'm home.

Pull ALL the codes and post them here including the H or C or HC that follow each 5 character code:
I feel as though this is related to when I tired to start the car with a 12v wire not grounded. I feel as though this caused and issue with a relay in passanger side footwell. I will pull codes when I get home today.
I really doubt it's the battery - it's been flawless and is virtually new. I really think it's something fuse or relay related.

The security light should blimk if the door is opened. When you put the key into the ignition and turn it toward the start position but DO NOT try to crank the engine the security light should go out.
Codes should help define the problem. If the pellet on the key is NOT being read correctly it should set a code and WILL prevent the engine from being cranked.
It may be just your terminology, but there is never an instance where a 12v wire should be grounded. That is called a short and will burn or blow something.
My mistake. I had a loose 12v wire that was not connected to anything. I'm immagining this was the issue. I'd imagine it was a short as you said.
