Lifter Tapping
I have a 2000 model with 70K and there is a lifter that taps for about a quarter mile if that and that's only if it has been sitting and cool. This seems to be a common problem with a lot of C-5's of that age and not a big problem to fix. More of a pain in the butt replacing all the lifters and may as well do the rods too. Anyway, just for the heck of it I added a bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer. It seemed to quiet the lifter "some" but not completely so my next step was to change the oil as I did to Royal Purple 5-30 full syn.. Twice the cost but since it only gets serviced once per year, I spent a little more. Now it really tapps but not as long, about 100 yards. I thought about another bottle of Lucas but would like some "experienced" techs to add their thoughts. I don't want to change out the lifters, it's not a heavy or loud enough tapping (yet), to worry about. any hepl or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
