Official oil refill quantity from GM
Hello fellow enthusiasts,
There has been numerous debate over the correct refill quantity after an oil change on c5.
After many questions, GM has sent dealers a VME on this issue.
The correct oil refill is 6.5 quarts. If you install 7, you will aerate the oil, and it will be consumed by the PCV system.
You will NOT see a full mark, directly after priming the oil filter. IT may take as much as 5 hours for all the oil to drain back into the pan, and give you a full mark. This is why you may see a 1/2 quart over full first thing in the morning if you put 7 quarts in.
This is the official word on this, as I have been authorized to release this.
Re: Official oil refill quantity from GM (batmann)
This is my opinion on this controversy. My Mark VIII calls for 6 quarts, it always takes 6.5. Vette took a half more, also, to 7 quarts. I believe if we took all the containers we used to fill the crankcase, let them drain upside down in a container for a bit, we would get a pint of oil. That's what causes the discrepancy. Yes, no, maybe? My belief. My dipstick reads right at 7 quarts.

Just do the 6 1/2 qts, with filter. The sticks are not all "accurate"..... Mine reads above full when I add 6 1/2 qts. (I do let it drain!), so I just put my own mark on the stick. :yesnod: :)
