no more chirping, however

I'm so glad to have a quiet car
After replacing just about everything, I came across a GM bulletin about the C5 bird under the hood. I replaced tensioners, harmonic balancer, gatorback belts, etc...Still chirped.
Here is the PROBLEM...
The LARGE idler pulley (bigger pulley) has a dust cover on the bolthead side that is too thin and after time and heat it starts to constrict and contract. After time, it becomes weak and touches the bearing EVER so slightly causing it to chirp.
The Solution
There is a replacement dust cover that is thicker, but you can't buy it separately. You MUST buy the GM Idler Pulley (about $65) and it will come with the new dust cover.
*****NOW, MOST IMPORTANTLY****
Use a TORQUE WRENCH to tighten to 38lbs and not ONE DROP MORE OR LESS. I went to 37 (I think that's what it calls for) but it still chirped, I went to 39 and it chirped. Got a bit more precise and made it 38 ft lbs and 3 years later and the bird is still DEAD!!!
Take this to the bank. After you finish this, say Thank you!!!!
