Default Do I need ring replacement??

Ok..Here are my observations of my car (98 C5 A4 w/43k miles) while driving it around town. When I go to punching the accelerator, I get a smoke trail from the exhaust and littles spots of oily residue on the back end and the pipes start to blacken. It seems to be running ok and I am traying to watch my oil consumption levels right now to see where they are at. I do have an after-market ext. warranty and am wondering if I should let my local dealer take care of it or my let my local shop take a look at it. I am starting to worry!

What color is the smoke coming out the back? Is it black? If so, you're just running rich. If it is bluish white, then you're burning oil.

If you're not using oil at a rate greater that 1 quart every 2000 miles, GM won't replace the rings. Personally, I wouldn't even ask unless I got fewer than 1500 miles to the quart.
