Default Headlight

Yesterday I got in to the car to drive it and the driverside headlight would not come up. After several attempts it finally came up but if I put the switch into the parking light posision the headlights come up also now, and when I turn them off the driverside gear keeps going like its going to strip the gears. I just replaced the headlight switch last year and the car doesnt get used that much. My question is does this seam like the switch is going out again. I know I can tear it apart and check it but I would rather swap it out with the warranty if this seams like the issue.

It is the plastic gear, replace it with a metal one. Here is a link

Thanks for the link but the motor goes up and down but when I turn the headlights off the bucket goes down but the driver side motor stays engaged after the bucket is down for a couple seconds. It is just the driver side though and the headlights both go up even when I turn the park lights on. They use to only raise when I fully engaged the headlights switch.

If the motor continues to run after the bucket has closed then more than likely the gear is stripped and the motor is not sensing enough resistance and continuing to run. This is the classic symptom of a stripped gear. I would start by replacing the driver side gear and go from there. You may have another issue with the loghts coming up in just the park position, but you should fix the gear first and go from there.

Thanks I have been reading up on this and I also agree that the headlight gears need to be replaced. The coming up in park position just started at the exact same time so I was not sure if there may be a relay issue or something else since I just changed the switch. I know new one still can go bad but with the other symptoms its just strange it all happened a once.

Again thanks for the replies

I had the same issue. It is the gear. New brass gear and good to go.
