I have a 03 Coupe 6 speed that I’ve put 107,000 + (including HPDE track days) fantastic mostly trouble free miles on.
Only mods:
Johnny O'Connell Stage 1 Suspension Package.
Zip-tied K&N open air filter.
I’ve always been able to find the answers to my questions on the forum but I’ve searched the forum and have not found anything on this specific issue.
ACTIVE HANDLING comes on and off (maybe 5 times within a few minutes) while just cruising down the highway at both street and freeway speeds. If I just barely touch the brake pedal while this is showing on the DIC it vibrates as if the ABS is activating but ABS ACTIVATED doesn’t show on the DIC. SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING or SERVICE ABS has never come up on the DIC. I’ve checked for codes before and after turning off the engine and even while driving immediately after it came up but no codes come up.
Anyone else experience this? Any help in identifying the problem and solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Stock size for both street and track. 245/45-17 fronts and 275/40-18 rears. Michelin run flats on GM chrome spoke wheels for street and Bridgestone Potenza RE-11’s with stock GM magnesium wheels for the track.
Sounds like your steering wheel position sensor is going bad. When it does, it gives FALSE position inputs telling the EBTCM false position signals.
Its like driving down the road and the car hits ice and slides sideways. Active handling will kick in and apply the necessary brakes to help straighten the car back to the direction the wheel is turned.
Hows your alignment?? If the steering wheel is off set right or left cause of a poor alignment, it can also have the same issue.
I’ve noticed that this only happened on hotter than normal days after the car had been sitting out in the parking lot for 12 hours where I work, never in the morning while driving to work. The last time this occurred I turned off the AH/TC for a few miles then turned it back on. So far I haven’t seen the same problem.
It makes sense that the probable culprit is the SWPS. Is there a way to test the SWPS? I do have a custom alignment so I’ll have that checked out although I haven’t had any pull to either side and the center of the steering wheel is straight up.
