Default Need Help Engine Mount Repalcement

I am in the process of replacing my engine mounts with the Hinson Urethane type. I have two different techniques I am using for reference. One requires removal of TB,coils and intake. The other does not reference removing those items. I have a lift and can support, raise or lower the engine and cradle using separate jacks/supports, independent of each other. My question is: Can I lower the cradle enough the remove the mounts which would keep me from taking the top of the motor apart. How far can I lower the cradle below the the guide pins or mounting bolts, without tearing something up.

Thanks for any advice.

when I did mine I just used a jack to support the engine from the oil pan and I removed the whole mount pedestal from the block with the mount still attached so it all comes out as 1 piece then you transfer the new mounts over to the pedestals and reinstall them... if you do it this way you don't have to mess with lowering the cradle or anything like that

I think we are talking about the same thing. I am calling it a cradle and you are calling it a mount. So if I disconnect the steering linkage I can lower it enough to switch the mounts out. I already have the engine supported I was just nervous about dropping the engine cradle to far and pulling on something i could not see.

no I am not talking about the cradle... there is a nut on the bottom of each mount and I believe 3 or 4 bolts that hold the pedestal to the block, if you remove those bolts you can remove the complete pedestal/mount assembly without having to lower the cradle

I got it, you are referring to the Engine Mount Bracket. Did you still drop the crossmsmber some? It still seams if you could lower the crossmsmber enough the get the engine mount out it would be easier.

I will check out the bracket tomorrow and see if I can make that work.

Thanks for the help.

yeah you got it... I did not lower my cradle at all, I didn't want to mess with potentially having to get an alignment and to me its much easier to just remove the assembly as a whole... once that bracket is loose the stud on the bottom of the mount will easily lift up out of the cradle... we all have our own ways to do the job so as long as the end result is the same then all is well

I removed the brackets as well. Just lift the engine slightly to take the pressure off and they will swivel out of the way. Don't mess with the cradle. I did it without any manifolds on the car but I think you should still have access to the bolts.
