Default Operating Temp..

I know this has kinda been beaten to death but I am going to ask again. My running temp on my car today at about 74 degrees outside, my car was operating at 163 degrees I thought this was kinda low. It really doesn't run much hotter than that even on the hottest of days, it might get up to 170 degrees or so. Just wanting to know if these are decent operating temps or should I maybe be thinking of replacing the thermostat (don't know what degree is in it now). Any help would be appreciated.

I was told by the previous owner that there is a Z06 hot cam installed. I have not been able to confirm this yet, but was at a dealer having my car service, don't have a jack yet to lift my car. The service manager after I told him this about the cam he thought the way it sounded it had a cam in it. Just thought I need to add this.

That seems very low. Should be between 190-210 on stock parts/settings.

Exactly what I was thinking. See my original post since added the cam note, just wondering if they put in a 160 thermostat because of this upgrade.

An operating temp of 170 is just too cold for any car. The engine temp needs to occasionally get to above 200 to be able to evaporate any condensation that may accumulate in the oil. Perhaps the 160 is stuck open or perhaps there is even NO T'stat in it at all. Do you ever hear the fans for the cooling system operate?? If so, at what temp do they come on?

I would definitely look into why the car runs so cold.
First of all thanks for the responses so quickly. The fans do come on when the the car is sitting and the temps get to about 220 I think and the fans come on. I will check this out to be sure and let you know.
I did this a couple of times this winter when I let the car idle and run for a couple of cycles with the fans operating.

170 does sound low. Mine has a 160 tstat and regularly runs between 187 and 195, stop and go traffic I have seen 212 deg.

This seems to be about average. And yes, this has been the subject of multiple threads. Maybe it should be a "sticky" subject?
