I was told by a Chevrolet parts guy that it would cost me over $500 to replace the inside "weatherstrip" on my 2002 vert. This is the piece that lies agains the window. He said that the entire door panel (inside and outside shell) have to be replaced.
Does this sound right? The guy doing my window tint slipped with an exacto blade and sliced the rubber, and now there's a little chunk out of it.
I'd say your "parts guy" is quoting retail prices to you. You should be able to buy wholesale at ANY dealership. If not, try another dealer. OEM weatherstriping IS quite expensive though.
Try this first. Get some black silicone sealant and fill the cut/gap in with it. It makes a pretty decent repair of the weatherstrip.
