Default Advice on hood mounting problem?

My new to me hood arrives at fed ex. They tried to beat the crap out of it. When holding the hood vertical you will hear a rattle and something falling to the lowest point. Turns out it's where the hood support bracket bolts into the hood. The hardware inside the hole broke loose during shipping. Not to mention they cracked the very tip of the hood during shipping.

Right now I was trying to research and see if anyone has had something similar happen, if you cut the hood open to fish out the hardware and how was it reattached? Wasn't planning on taking the hood in to a body shop for a month or two so I'm not in communication with body guy.

Drivers side is fine.

On the passenger side though you will notice something is missing in the lower hole.

Drill a small 1/8 th inch hole through the center of the existing hole that is missing the threaded lug/nut.
This will give you a close to center on the other side of hood panel.

Now drill around a 3/4" hole, using that pilot hole .

Use a magnet to get the lug/nut out.

If it is indeed a nut, put a socket on it and hold it in place, while you tighten the bolt.

The tip in doing those particular two bolts is to have the hinge, off of the car to snug those two bolts in place to the hinge.

Then set the hinge/hood back into it's original place & adjust & tighten from that position.

NOTE****Mark the original (two) hinge location with some blue painters tape.
Tape around two corners on each hinge position, before taking the hinges off to mount to hood.

Bumble-Z hows it going

Thanks for the info, I wish I had read it a bit sooner. Someone suggested trying to get the bit to fall out up top where the hood latches so I picked it up and danced with it a little and then the sound disappeared. So it seems the nut or whatever is lodged somewhere now.*sigh* Who knows maybe it will dislodge and I will be able to try your method you so kindly laid out for me.

Hope you're doin well!

If you need any tips on installing & fitting that hood into location, just give me a pm or phone call.

I've got a method to where one person can remove & install one with out any help.

Is that an MCM hood you have pictured there?

If not let me know who the manufacturer is/was.
That's great to hear

Yeah, it's an MCM hood. I was planning on trying to install it myself so that would have been handy but it looks like it will make it's next trip uninstalled to be repaired. Mr.Bill had mentioned trying to use a "nutsert"...

A couple of years ago I was able to get an MCM carbon hood, used...one of the original one's made.

It fit like a glove.

What in the world is going to hold the nutsert into position?

That's the experience I was hoping for...

I have no idea. I think he was just trying to help and rattled off a possibility...

I wonder how whatever is in there is even attached...
