Store them somewhere climate-controlled, like a basement or heated garage. Keeps the rubber from drying out and going through mini-heat cycling. stacking them atop another is okay too. If you can do it vertically, take pics!

It helps the life of the tire if you wrap each tire in a thick plastic bag that doesn't let light flow through it. (Ultra-violet rays) I would want to store tires on their side in order to avoid any flat spot that might form, regardless of how small it may be. Try to keep the temperatures somewhere near 70 give or take ten degrees.
