Hi all,
Rickyvette, take it off and inspect it........if it has signs of cracks or aging, just get a new one. They are only about $25 bucks and it's easy to change out! I, personally would not use any spray/liquid on it as it might make it squeek or weaken it.
With a serpentine belt such as your ’98 has, it is not recommended that you use belt dressing as it causes the belt to start pilling (a fine dust made up of the synthetic material that is in the belt). This will make it squeak and slip and you’ll have to replace it.
With a regular v-belt it is best to keep it adjusted and not use belt dressing because once you do the belt becomes addicted to it and will squeak for more. This is great if you sell belt dressing but a pain in the butt as an owner.
