Default considering exhaust upgrade....need advice

so, I would like to upgrade my exhaust but i'm on a tight budget. (waiting for comment about "then why did you buy a vette" LOL)

anyways, I don't want it obnoxiously loud. I'd like it to be fairly quiet while cruising but open up when I get on it. I don't want an over bearing rumble as i'm driving normal speed down the road.

I have a 98 that is bone stock. well, almost. I just put new air filter on it and a performance harmonic balancer (stocky came apart).

anyways, would like to do SOMETHING, but don't really want to spend a ton. maybe $300-400 shipped. go ahead, laugh

any CHEAP options? stock z06 titanium? borla? corsa? generic?

You can't go wrong with the Z06 titanium. High flowing, sounds great and saves a lot of weight.

Be very careful with the $400 EBay catbacks. These are cheap Chinese knockoffs and you get what you pay for. They're probably made from some sort of stainless steel but, it is probably a very cheap type/alloy. You also have to look at fit and finish. There is nothing worse than struggling with your catback trying to make it fit and line up properly.

I don't recommend them. As others have said, you're better off going with a used Z06 or well-known name brand catback. Just my two cents.

Right in your price range, it's the perfect upgrade, no droning on the highway, less restriction, nice sound.

the z06 titanium is far too tame in my opinion but for what you're looking to spend that's about your best bet unless you happen to stumble on a good deal on a name brand exhaust in the for sale section... if it were me I would save some more and buy a quality corsa/ghl system

Im biased, I think a modern sports car should be mellow with a calm sounding exhaust. Sound does not equal power. On the other hand a classic car should be loud and obnoxious. My 72 C3 454 with open sidepipes will rattle tools off of the wall in the garage like it is supposed to.

I don't want to be crazy loud lol I just want a nice sound with somewhat of an upgrade in performance. Have been considering a used borla or corsa - which is "better" .....I do not want "drone" on highway drives.....a slight rumble is fine tho ive seen a couple borla cat backs go for around 450, and z06 titaniums go for bout 400

Corsa is designed not to drone, but I think you're going to be hard pressed to find a used set for the price target you are looking for. You almost surely will have to come up at least a few hundred bucks to get your hands on a set.

If you're looking for literally no drone then yes, wait. The Corsa's will be more aggressive than the Ti axle-back but still retain the same "no drone" interior sound of the Ti's at cruise and you'll be able to install it without the use of a lift.

OBX makes a rather cheap cat back and I hear it works and fits fine. I bought 2 8inch cherry bombs and a x pipe and had it welded in sounds good but there is a drone which I don't mind.

Also with a X pipe your car wont sound like a tractor.

I had Corsa and they sound good but are very heavy! I sold mine and went with the Ti and I like it better.

I've been thinking about just getting the Ti z06 stocks and put a set of headers....but I'm a noob when it comes to modding cars. been on bikes most of my life and never really did anything with my cars other than stereos.

would it be beneficial at all to do aftermarket headers and a z06 ti exhaust on my 98?
